Menu of Professional Development Options for Whole-Faculty Workshops
All sessions include two highly-qualified facilitators, analysis of pre-survey responses to gauge individual communities’ needs, and follow-up support. We will provide a cost estimate based on session type, number of participants, and session location. We are committed to supporting affordable access to professional learning for all education communities.
90 minutesBest suited for larger faculties
- This session provides a foundational overview of gender, sexual, and family diversity in K-12 schools (e.g., terminology, current research and stats on LGBTQ youths’ experiences in schools) and engages participants in knowledge building, critical reflection, and dialogue. Session includes screening and discussion of a 21-minute documentary film Breaking the Silence. Session concludes with a series of “big” and “little” things that educators can do to become more affirming of gender and sexual diversity.
2 hoursThe gift of additional time
- This session covers everything captured in the 90-minute session description, but with the gift of additional time, we engage participants in more structured dialogue as well as action and practice (e.g., through scenarios and role play). In this session, we share exemplar curricular tools and specific resources for “taking stock” of the unique needs of the local school community and for disrupting heteronormativity, homophobia, and transphobia. We recommend 2-hour sessions for most communities.
2.5+ hoursA deeper dive
- For communities seeking a deeper dive into gender, sexual, and family diversity, we can work with you to develop a session tailored to your specific needs. Additional time enables deeper support for curriculum design, developing short- and long-term action plans, and engaging questions.
